TheRebels faced a fierce opponent on Wednesday 10/14/20. The Newtown NightHawks came into today's competition 5-0 and the New Fairfield Rebels walked in the gym as the under dogs with a record of 1-4. The team was excited to challenge the  team chemistry but the Nighthawks came for a quick win. 

The Rebels put up a valiant fight and even spooked the Nighthawks into several time outs. The Rebels began to eat away at their confidence with each scrappy play The Nighthawks won the  first 2 sets 12-25 and 15-25. The pressure on the Nighthawks was real but each time they pulled ahead making fewer mistakes than the Rebels.

The 3rd set proved to be a true test.The Rebels stayed neck and neck with the Nighthawks. Each point was a battle from 12-12 to 13-13, to 14-14. The teams stayed even until 17-17 and then the Rebels pulled  ahead  19-17. The win was in striking distance.The rallys went back and forth until the tempo changed when the Rebels played a free ball that was out. The score was now 20-18. One more mistake and it was 20-20. The NightHawks competitive edge was awakened and they won the set and matched 20-25. The loss was a sting and an accomplishment all at once. The Rebels played well and played as a team. They battled and stayed focused to the very end. This loss is like none so far. It was more about our growth as a team than about the loss. The team has a new confidencence and is ready for our next competition.

Junior, Bridget Martin led the Rebels with 8 digs, 3 aces and 1 kill. Senior Giovanna Langguth had 8 essential digs. Junior Kelly Ford had 5 digs, 3 kills, 1 ace and 1 block assist. Senior, Maija Evans had 1 ace and 1 kill. Junior Riley Gibbons had 1 block assist and 3 kills. Junior Brielle Vore had 2 digs and 1 kill. Senior Caroline Keary had 2 kills and 2 digs. Senior Crystal Gangi had 5 assists and 1 ace.
