AbbottTech Wolverines

Today the New Fairfield Rebels coached by Jody Chadwick and Steve Ng traveled to Danbury to play Abbott Tech’s Wolverines. The Wolverines are coached by Jim Mills, the former head coach of the Rebels. The game comes with much anticipation and trepidation. First because the Rebels unexpectedly lost to the Wolverines in the 2019 Season, second because the Rebels wanted to do well against their former coach. 

The Rebels came out strong and won the first 2 sets 25-10, 25-22. The Wolverines monopolized on a string of mistakes and won the next 2 sets 23-25, 23-25. The Rebels regrouped and steadied their nerves to win the last set 15-13.  

Rebels’ Maija Evans proved to be a leader for her team. Evans, had 18 Aces and 7 kills. Evans started the match strong and won it with 2 final serves to win the 5th set 15-13. Riley Gibbons  contributed 9 kills and 1 solo block.  Kelly Ford added a respectable 8 kills, 5 aces and 2 solo blocks. Avery Predham had 3 kills, 2 solo blocks and 1 block assist with Olivia Chadwick. Olivia Chadwick had 1 kill. Crystal Gangi had 12 assists and 3 aces. Giovanna Langguth led the defense with 8 digs. Bridget Martin contributed with 7 digs. Crystal Gangi and Emily Flanagan each had 3 aces. Emily Flanagan had 2 kills. Bridget Martin and Caroline Keary each had 2 aces. Brielle Vore delivered 1 ace. The team worked together to lift each other up when the pressure was on. 

The Rebels are now 1-1. The Rebels face Pomperaug Panthers, away on Wednesday 10/7 at 6:00pm.
