Northwest Catholic vs Newington-Berlin (Mar 17, 2012)

NEW HAVEN -- Drew O'Leary made 18 saves and Brandon Ralph and Brendon Richard both had goals as the co-op of top-seeded Newington and Berlin defeat third-seeded Northwest Catholic 2-1 in the Division III Final Saturday at Yale.

With the victory, Newington/Berlin brings home its first title in program history. The co-op, which is in its third season, had never advanced past the quarterfinals till this season.

Newington/Berlin (22-2) grabbed its first lead with a power play goal from Ralph just 1:30 into the first period and never looked back.

The co-op then added to its lead with a strike from Brendon Richard with 6:24 left in the second period after a pass from Nicholas Briganti.

Still, Northwest Catholic (19-5) responded. With 3:58 left in the second period, Patrick Melanson scored on the power play to make it 2-1. But Northwest Catholic never was able to the equalizer and O'Leary played his best period in the final period.

O'Leary made 10 saves in the third period to secure the victory. Matt Greenwood finished with 15 saves for Northwest Catholic.
